RE: Trail Air Hitch/Suspension System

Get the air pin box. but do not get the centerpoint suspension. If you go onto the trailair web site they now have a equal torque suspension that is only about 250 dollars for the pair. Much cheaper and probably a better product in the long run.
donno might be right we bought before Lippert bought the company and lippert has a poor record for quailty.

RE: Trail Air Hitch/Suspension System

You won't get it any cheaper so if you can go for it. Air products makes for a much smoother drive and your new fifth will last longer because you are so smart buying air stuff.
Air hitch and trailair center point suspension on our 01 alpenlite. One smooth deal.

RE: New Truck Towed Beautifully

Capt is so correct. I had 14K miles on the 98 dodge but didn't like the trannie because of just 4 gears and many times I said if it just had 5 gears it would be wonderful, then it happened, it was called the allison 5 sp in the 2001 chevs. My wife asked could it plug a bigger fifthwheel than the 32. Boy was I dumb with heck yes as the answer. The 2001 35 ft alpenlite was ordered before the truck arrived. OK because it has been great for us but believe the capt.

RE: battery maintenance

He might be able to use solar if he can run the wire from outside to the batteries. But he is doing ok if disconnecting is what he wants to do. Good ideas above also. chevman

RE: Need Tow Vehicle Advice

I believe anything over a 30 ft would be best served with a diesel and if 30 ft I would buy a gas engine because of less things to worry about. I have been looking at HH on the web and believe it would be my next purchase if the 2001 alpenlite gives out but it still seems new so maybe if it is in a wreck HH would be bought. Chev or dodge doesn't have a big enough gas engine and ford doesn't count for me so diesel is our only choice but the duramax seems great so far. chevman

RE: Rear Kitchen...love em or hate em?

We are on the 2nd RK fifthwheel and one reason is because it makes for a good kitchen. 2nd reason is RL models have a big area on one side and no windows to see out, we can see out the end and both sides plus the front of the big slide.
To answer about bouncing, we have air products on the hitch and alpenlite suspension so awesome smooth ride for the fifth. But we all need to buy what seems the best for our needs and don't second guess or it gets expensive trading.

RE: Tire temps.

Yes I do this everytime we travel in our fifth wheel. The temperture will always depend on the heat from the road and air. the tires will be hotter on the sunny side but if something is wrong you will see it. chevman

I can only tell about the 8.1 and 4.10 rear. It was great and I believe the 6 liter would be better also. chevman

You didn't say if the fan was coming on. If not there might be an inline thermostat in the cooling line not working.

RE: JT's installed today

One other bit of advice...when setting your trailer, lower the rear jacks first and snug them to the ground, bring the trailer "almost" to level. Then raise the front of the fiver all the way to level. This will "load" the rear jacks...they don't do anygood unless they have pressure on them. Afterwards, tighten all the T handles on the JT's. This will help to make the unit as solid as possible.
I do it this way and just alittle different than the above post.
I raise the front to almost level. Lower the rear stabilizers and turn the T handle on the JT. Then raise the front to tighten the connections to take the play out. I now tighten the front T handle and again raise the front to do the same thing tighten the front connections. I will now have the fifth level. The trick is to know how low to have the front in the beginning. This isn't real important for a weekend trip but we sit for 6 months each winter and like it perfect or close to it. I only tell this because it seemed the story might be putting a bigger load on the rear than needed. Awesome product and you will enjoy them.

RE: 2007 Chevy Diesel 6.6 SRW

It is a 2500HD. The Pin Weight is 2000 Lbs. I have seen others towing similiar fifth wheels just wanted to make sure.
Thanks again

Most of the others are doing it wrong using small overloaded pickups. Kinda hard to understand.

RE: serge protectors

Looks like I am out there by myself again. I have never had a surge protector, and I don't use a water pressure regulator. I have never had a problem.
That does NOT mean I am telling anybody they don't need one! I am simply stating what I have done, nothing more.

RE: Sagging .....

I see this all the time even the 350's are low in the rear. Big distance between the overload spring and springs could be the reason.

RE: new to this

I guess you are already using the fifth since this is Sunday. If not I believe you need more time to get to know the rv. Try everything and live in it at home if you can to test everything. Tires were addressed and good information above. have fun
